Ongoing 2024 – 2025

Lifestyle Intervention Program – Meemu Dhiggaru

Inaugurated on 14 November 2024 by First Lady Madam Saajidha Mohamed. The program implements culturally appropriate, low-cost, and sustainable lifestyle interventions to prevent Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus among 120 high-risk participants. Funded by Dhiggaru Council and Ministries.

Keveni Nutrition Workshops

Conducted over a one-year period (October 2024-2025) with the aim of improving nutrition knowledge and practical dietary management for people living with Type 1 Diabetes and their caregivers. Workshops held in Hanimaadhoo (Northern) and Addu City (Southern).

Completed 2022 – 2023

Nation-wide Diabetes and Lifestyle Risks Study

DSM conducted a nationwide screening program across all islands from November 2022 to January 2023. Total participants: 10,717. Final cleaned sample: 10,023 participants. This study provided critical evidence for national prevention and policy development.

Ongoing 2013 – Present

Insulin Pump Therapy Support Program

Insulin pump therapy was introduced in the Maldives in 2013. DSM has supported pump therapy through donations, training, and advocacy for national insurance coverage. This program aims to improve glycemic control and quality of life for selected individuals with Type 1 diabetes.

Ongoing 2012 – Present

DiabMaldives Youth Camp

First conducted in 2012, the DiabMaldives Youth Camp is held every two years for youth aged 13-25 years living with Type 1 diabetes. This five-day residential camp provides a safe and supportive environment to build self-management skills, confidence, and independence under the supervision of trained healthcare professionals.

Ongoing 2008 – Present

Save a Diabetic Child Project

Launched in 2008, this project provides life-saving insulin and blood glucose monitoring supplies to children and young people living with Type 1 diabetes. The project began with 35 registered Type 1 patients and has expanded nationwide. DSM maintains a national patient registration system to ensure continuity of care and uninterrupted access to essential supplies.

The Island Study

A landmark nationwide study that mapped diabetes prevalence across Maldivian islands for the first time.
